Reinforced PP for Higher Structural Loads
Reinforced Polypropylene Molding Compound is an enhanced PP material developed for structural parts that require greater mechanical strength, impact performance, and heat resistance.
The typical grade is PP 402G6.
Applications include new-energy battery trays, cooling fans, and water pump housings. The material can also be used for electrical housings, automotive bumpers, and other automotive components.
Compared with general PP materials that place greater emphasis on flexibility, reinforced PP is more suitable for molded products that need to maintain their shape, withstand assembly pressure, or carry mechanical loads over extended periods.
Higher Rigidity and Heat Resistance
PP 402G6 has a density of 1.12 g/cm³ and a molding shrinkage range of 0.30%–0.60%.
Tensile strength at break reaches 70 MPa, while elongation at break is 5%. Flexural strength is 90 MPa, and flexural modulus reaches 3500 MPa.
Notched Izod impact strength is 12 kJ/m².
Under a load of 0.45 MPa, the heat deflection temperature is 140°C. Under a higher load of 1.82 MPa, the heat deflection temperature is 120°C.
These values give Reinforced Polypropylene Molding Compound a performance profile suited to parts where rigidity, load support, thermal performance, and controlled shrinkage are more important than high elongation.
Different Structural Parts Need Different Checks
New-energy battery trays can be large and may contain reinforcing ribs, fixing holes, and assembly surfaces. Buyers should evaluate rigidity, heat resistance, molding dimensions, and the actual loading direction.
Cooling fans have a different requirement. Rotating blades depend on structural strength and dimensional consistency for stable molded geometry.
Water pump housings should be considered according to housing structure, interface positions, and the actual operating environment.
During material selection, useful information includes operating temperature, loading direction, wall thickness, mold structure, and assembly tolerance.
Trial molding can then be used to observe reinforcement flow orientation, surface condition, and warpage before the material is approved for continuous manufacturing.
