Medical device grade TPE elastomer injection molding raw materials

Leave a message

Elastomer injection molding raw materials are a class of polymeric materials that combine the elasticity of rubber with the processing properties of plastics, and are widely used in medical devices, pipes, and household appliance components.

Their core advantage lies in their ability to be rapidly molded through injection molding while maintaining material flexibility, fatigue resistance, and environmental friendliness. Taking thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) as an example, they use SEBS (styrene-ethylene-butene-styrene block copolymer) as a base material, and through physical blending, they achieve precise control over hardness, transparency, and temperature resistance, making them a preferred alternative to traditional rubber.

In the medical device field, elastomer injection molding raw materials must meet stringent environmental and safety standards. For example, some TPE materials have passed RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), FDA (Food Contact Grade), and PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) certifications, ensuring they are non-toxic and harmless in scenarios involving direct contact with the human body, such as tourniquets and catheters. Their hardness range covers Shore 55~80A, mimicking the soft touch of human tissue, while also withstanding sterilization temperatures of 60~135℃ to avoid high-temperature deformation. Furthermore, the material's high transparency facilitates observation of internal fluid states by medical personnel, while semi-transparent or black versions are used in special scenarios requiring light shielding.

In terms of processing performance, the elastomer injection molding raw material supports 24/7 continuous production without the need for vulcanization, significantly shortening the production cycle and reducing energy consumption. In its pipe-grade applications, optimized material flowability reduces wall thickness unevenness, improving finished product yield. In the home appliance component sector, filler-grade formulations enhance rigidity by adding mineral fillers while maintaining surface scratch resistance. Notably, environmental friendliness is one of the core competitive advantages of this type of material-it uses recyclable SEBS substrate, which can be regranulated physically after disposal, aligning with the circular economy trend.

Technically, the performance control of elastomer injection molding raw materials relies on molecular structure design. For example, adjusting the styrene-butene block ratio in SEBS can alter the material's hardness and elasticity; adding plasticizers or nanofillers can further optimize oil resistance or abrasion resistance. For high-end applications such as medical devices, the material must also pass biocompatibility testing to ensure that long-term contact with human tissue will not trigger allergic or inflammatory reactions. These technological breakthroughs have enabled the transformation of elastomer injection molding raw materials from general-purpose materials to functional solutions, meeting the diverse needs of different industries.
